Cork footballers welcome attacker back after injury

Cork manager John Cleary has confirmed that Conor Corbett has returned to training.

The Clyda Rovers star suffered the dreaded cruciate ligament injury last summer, but he is now back on the grass as the Rebels gear up for their Munster SFC semi-final against Kerry on Saturday week at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh (7pm).

The injury situation has cleared up significantly in recent weeks with Maurice Shanley and Seán Powter playing a part in Cork’s win over Limerick in the Munster quarter-final last Saturday at the TUS Gaelic Grounds. Tommy Walsh was an unused substitute in the 0-24 to 0-13 victory as he returned following an injury.

Luke Fahy is out for the clash with the Kingdom. The Ballincollig player was a sub against Louth in the penultimate Allianz Division 2 Football League fixture last month, but then picked up an injury. He suffered a hamstring injury last September and only had recently returned before picking up this latest injury.

“The only player who isn’t training is Luke Fahy,” Cleary said on Thursday evening.

“He had a slight setback, but he isn’t too far away. I would expect after the Kerry match that Luke will be back fully training.

“Conor Corbett is back training, but that’s only starting off. Other than that, the rest are training, but some of them are only in their first week back with no games played or anything like that.

"Bit by bit players have been coming back and as the season has progressed, we have been improving. Our panel has gotten stronger."
