Manchester United have made Luis Enrique a top candidate for the head coach vacancy at Old Trafford, but hiring the Spaniard will not be cheap.

While Michael Carrick’s strong results as interim head coach have made him a favourite for the permanent job in the summer, not everyone is convinced.

Gary Neville wants Luis Enrique at United and he has urged Ineos to pursue the best manager available. Given Enrique’s huge success at Barcelona and PSG, it is hard to argue against his CV.

Enrique’s tactics are perfect for United too, but the Spaniard’s world-class reputation means Ineos would have to pay world-class wages.

Luis Enrique’s current wages as PSG manager

According to Planet Football, Enrique earns £9.6 million on his current PSG deal, which ranks him as the seventh-highest-earning manager in world football.

It equates to around £185,000 per week for Enrique. The 55-year-old signed a contract extension with PSG in February following his Champions League triumph in 2025.

It means that Enrique is under contract until 2027 in Paris.

When Enrique announced his contract extension, he said (as per ESPN): “I don’t know how long I’ll be here, when you feel comfortable where you are and you feel the trust of those around you, why set limits for yourself.”

Luis Enrique is much more expensive than Ruben Amorim

According to the Daily Mail, United agreed a £6.5 million per year deal with Ruben Amorim when he was hired in 2024.

It means Amorim was taking home £125,000 per week as United boss.

When compared to United’s best-paid first-team players, it means that Amorim was earning more than players such as Lisandro Martinez, Diogo Dalot, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo.

If United want to go all-in for Enrique in the summer, they will likely have to match or even improve on the wages he is paid in Paris.
