Fans crossing boundaries to meet their favourite cricket players is not appreciated, but it shows how much the players mean to them. Instances of pitch invasion, especially in IPL, have been on the rise in the last few years. A similar incident happened during the KKR vs RCB match at the Eden Gardens when a fan, 18-year-old Rituparno Pakhira, breached the security to meet Virat Kohli . The fan touched his feet and got a hug from Kohli before the security escorted him out of the ground. The fan was later banned from entering Eden Garden for IPL 2025.

Rituparno, who was sent to police custody and was granted bail on Monday, does not regret his action as he was able to meet his idol. Speaking to Times Of India, Rituparno revealed what Virat Kohli said to him after he ran onto the ground to meet Kohli.

"The moment I touched his feet, Virat Kohli sir picked me up, asked my name and said jaldi se bhaag ja (run away fast). Kolhi sir even asked the security personnel coming to catch me to not hit me and asked them to escort me out of the ground gently," the 18-year-old said.

“I had planned to enter the ground at any cost and prepared myself. I do not have any regrets. I am very happy that I was successful and that I could touch my god," he said.

While the police asked for further custody, the magistrate Mukhopadhyay granted him bail on the condition that he will not enter Eden Garden in this season of IPL.

Rituparno’s mother, Kakali, requested the judiciary to forgive his son.

“He adores Virat Kohli. For him, he is god. We are requesting cops and judiciary to forgive him considering his age and career,” she said at her home in East Burdwan’s Jamalpur.

Rituparno has been taking cricket coaching since the age of 12 at Netaji Athletics Club in Jamalpur.
