Exclusive: Bournemouth rival Crystal Palace as Romain Esse bid being submitted

Bournemouth are ready to rival Crystal Palace for the signing of Millwall attacker Romain Esse this month, sources have told Football Insider.

The Cherries are planning a bid for the 19-year-old attacking midfielder this week after strong interest from Palace.

Esse was left out of the Millwall squad for their FA Cup win over Dagenham and Redbridge on Monday (13 January) as he closes in on a move away from The Den.

Lions boss Alex Neil confirmed his omission was due to the interest shown in the teenager, and Bournemouth have now joined the race to secure his signature in the mid-season window.

Esse has made 25 appearances across all competitions for Millwall this term, notching five goals and one assist.

He has started in 24 of those outings and is now a regular for England’s Under-20 side.

The London-born talent, who made his debut for Millwall as a 17-year-old in 2022, has played in a variety of attacking roles this term.

Bournemouth join race for Millwall teenager Esse

Esse has made 65 senior appearances for his boyhood club, racking up seven goals and one assist.

The teenager signed a new contract at Millwall in August 2024 running until June 2026 but looks set to secure an exit in the mid-season window, which shuts on 3 February.

Bournemouth sit seventh in the Premier League table under Andoni Iraola, who led the club to their highest points total (48) last term.

Meanwhile, Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace sit 15th in England’s elite division and are five points clear of the relegation zone.
