ENG vs IND: Shubman Gill booed by English crowd in Manchester after Lord's bust up

India captain Shubman Gill was booed by the English crowd following his dismissal on Day 1 of the fourth Test against England. Gill had a brainfade moment as he got dismissed for the first time against Ben Stokes in his international career. He walked to the crease in the second session following the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal and joined Sai Sudharsan at the crease.

The India skipper was determined to have a big score against his name, following his twin failures in the third Test at Lord’s. However, Gill got dismissed in the most bizarre manner possible as he left a delivery from Stokes coming into him from over the wicket and got hit on his pads.

As soon as the India captain made the error in judgment, the entire England team went up for an appeal, pleading with umpire Rod Tucker to raise his finger, who took some time to make his decision. As a result, Gill had to depart for 12 (23) and was also given a hostile send-off by the England crowd, who booed him on his way back to the pavilion.

Hence, his poor run continued since Player of the Match performance in the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Earlier, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal got India off to a terrific start as they added 94 runs for the first wicket after India were put in to bat first by England.

Rahul was dismissed on 46 (98) by Chris Woakes as England tasted first success after a wicket-less first session. Jaiswal went on to score his 12th Test half century as he applied himself at the crease. He got dismissed for 58 (107), edging Liam Dawson to Harry Brook at first slip. India went into tea on 149/3 with Rishabh Pant (3*) and Sai Sudharsan (26*) at the crease.
