Sacked Premier League Referee David Coote Now Has Surprise New Job

Former Premier League referee David Coote has been spotted in a new job this week - one far removed from his whistlebearing days in front of the TV cameras. The 42-year-old is currently serving a 16-month UEFA ban after a video emerged of him savaging former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, followed by another clip showing him taking cocaine back in November.

Alongside the UEFA suspension, Coote was also fired by PGMOL following an investigation. He later broke his silence on the incident, breaking down in tears as he cited mental health struggles as the reason behind his drug use. Friends have since said they expect him to return to the sport at some point in the future, after overseeing 112 Premier League matches during his career.

In the meantime, however, Coote appears to have found a way to keep his pockets filled, albeit far away from the limelight. It’s safe to say his surroundings now are much more humble.

David Coote Spotted In Surprise New Job

He now delivers packages for Evri

A couple were shocked to see Coote on their Ring doorbell delivering a parcel. He’s now working for courier company Evri, based near his home in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Speaking to The Sun about his new job, he said (see photo below):

“I want to get on with my life. I’m trying to move forwards and regain a sense of responsibility and purpose. The job is keeping me busy and occupied, it’s not a new long-term career.”

The homeowner at the address he delivered to said: “My husband’s a Liverpool fan and what David said didn’t go down well. My husband had ordered a part for a vehicle he’s working on and recognised David. He said, ‘He’s delivering packages now’. I was like ‘Oh my gosh, is he really?’

"It’s his own downfall, at the end of the day. David got himself into this mess."

Last month, he ran the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon to raise money for his uncle Mick, who has motor neurone disease. Coote said: “I’m doing what I want to do, focusing on what’s important, like spending more time with friends and family.”

Friends backed him. A source said: “David’s a great lad who lost his career through stupidity, as he fully acknowledges. There might be a return for him to the game at some point, and football definitely needs experts like him. Until then he obviously has to pay the bills.”
